Greg Rubino arrived in the desert nine years ago to open the Classic Club as its director of golf, assuming the position of general manager within the first year, after having lived in such locales as Fiji, London, San Antonio, and Tucson.

“I have been all over the world with Troon,” says the Palm Desert resident, who jumped at the move to the desert.

Rubino works closely with the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation and sits on the board of the Patrick Warburton Golf for Kids tournament, which he helped start.

He jokes that his passions are “wine, watches, and wheels,” with wine as his special love.

“I’m a bit of an extremist,” he admits. “I actually took one of the bedrooms in my house and turned it into a wine room.”

Although Rubino is too modest to give a number to his collection, he acknowledges that it is large, and his special joy is assisting with the wine buying at the club.

Rubino is happy where he is these days but treasures his ability to travel the world from a “Fijian village to the center of London.”
