'Spa Week' Celebrates Feel Good Message

Elements Spa Makes You Take Notice of Hilton Palm Springs

Randi Wood Health & Wellness

The Hilton Palm Springs may be one of those places you take for granted when it comes to spa treatments.

But don’t.

The hotel's Elements Spa is one of five offering special spa packages in the Greater Palm Springs area during “Spa Week”, a national event set for Oct. 14-20. Hundreds of spas (day, medical and resort), yoga and pilates studios, and fitness and wellness centers across the country will offer up to three signature treatments for just $50 each.

Also participating locally are the Feel Good Spa at Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs; The Saguaro Spa in Palm Springs; All About Massage in Palm Desert, and Agua Serena Spa at Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa.

Elements Spa is nestled in the back corner of the expansive Hilton in downtown Palm Springs where I was greeted for my appointment warmly and professionally by the staff.

They suggested I try a special package called the “Spa Escape Package”, which includes a 50-minute massage and a mineralizing back mask. I have never had a back mask before, and I’m always up for a good massage.

I was introduced to my therapist Silva and led into my treatment room. Silva explained that we would be starting off with the massage followed by the back mask.

It is so hard to find a great massage therapist. There are so many aspects that go into a good one – confidence, firm-but soft pressure, the aptitude to know when they are working your muscles out, but not hurting you, and good draping. Silva had all of these qualities.

The mineralizing back mask she used was from a line called Phytoceance, which is a marine-based product to help mineralize your muscles and release pain and tension. I sat upright as she applied the product and lay back down to let it penetrate for 15 minutes.

During the waiting time, the mask remained warm and bubbled on my skin. After the duration of time was complete, Silva came in and removed the product with a warm towel…which is something else I need to note.

The use of warm towels, heated bead pillows, and blankets are all the small touches that make a good spa experience into a great one.

After my treatment, the facilities were free for me to use including a Swiss shower, steam room, pool, hot tub, fitness facility and a nice relaxation area with snacks and beverages.
