The Palm Springs Modern Committee held its “Steel So Cool” gala at Donald Wexler’s final masterpiece — an elegant steel and glass home in the Palm Springs Movie Colony neighborhood.

Built with careful abidance to Wexler’s timeless architectural design, The Last Wexler pays tribute to his enduring legacy as a master of modern architecture. The sleek streamlined structure provided a perfect setting for MODCOM’s annual fundraiser on Feb. 13.

“The Last Wexler” was developed by Alan Finkle and Shawn Rost from Wexler's original design created in 2000. Working with architect Lance O’Donnell, a close friend and collaborator of Wexler’s, and constructed by Better-Built Inc., the team accomplished a stunning example of Wexler's revered minimalist architecture.

Guests, excited to see the home, toured the interior and exterior spaces while enjoying cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

With a theme of metallic Wex-appeal, the crowd of more than 200 rose to the occasion donning sparkly attire, ready to party. Music provided by DJ James Gonzales ran the gamut from Motown and disco to contemporary and classic tunes, keeping a fun and energetic tempo.

PS ModCom is a 501 (C-3) non-profit membership organization whose mission includes preservation, education and advocacy for the desert modern midcentury modern architecture.
