The Israel Cancer Research Fund (ICRF), one of the largest sources of private funds for innovative cancer research in Israel, collaborated with Eisenhower Medical Center and the Desert AIDS Project to present “From AIDS to Cancer.”

Event co-chairs, Patrick Mundt and Dr. Jeralyn Brossfield welcomed close to 100 guests for an informative and compelling luncheon at the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences on the campus of Eisenhower Medical Center.

Guests listened attentively as Dr. Ran Taube, an Israel Cancel Research Fund scientist from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, presented his findings on the common pathways that occur in HIV and Leukemia. Dr. Taube’s research and findings have the potential to revolutionize our understanding of these diseases and the options for treatment.

A new addition to the more than 800 non-profits in the Coachella Valley, the ICRF is advancing cancer research and treatments that have been pivotal in saving lives. In the past 41 years since its founding, ICRF scientists have made major breakthroughs in important research. Thousands of patients throughout the world are alive today thanks to drug treatments resulting from ICRG research.

“Israel Cancer Research Fund last year expanded into the Coachella Valley because cancer affects us all,” said Mundt, board president of the ICRF Coachella Valley chapter.

Funds raised by ICRG have contributed to more than $56 million for over 2200 grants involving major hospitals, universities, and cancer research projects throughout Israel. The results of Israeli scientists’ outstanding research have made a significant impact in Southern California, across the United States, and throughout the world.

A special acknowledgement was given to Barbara and Jerry Keller for generously donating the luncheon, which was catered by their restaurant, Lulu’s California Bistro. Jerry Keller also serves as treasurer of the ICRF Coachella Valley chapter.

Other sponsors of the event included The Faas Foundation, Barbara and Bernie Fromm, Peggy and James Greenbaum, Yvonne and Steve Maloney, Dr. Marsha and William Pachter, and Bernard Reiter.

Notable guests and speakers included, Dr. Brossfield from Eisenhower Medical Center; Dr. Steven Scheibel, research director, Desert AIDS Project; Bruce Landgarten, CEO, Jewish Federation of the Desert; Atma Wiseman; Laura Fritz; Bill Pactor and John Clancy; Lori Serfling; actress Joyce Bulifant and husband/musician Roger Perry; Marjorie Victor; and Stephanie Farrell, Eisenhower Medical Center’s Director of Research.
