Korakia Pensione, built in 1924 as the Tangier-style villa for Scottish painter Gordon Coutts, has since become a magnet for visiting artists, musicians, photographers, writers, and celebrities. Winston Churchill reportedly painted in the studio on the property.
Today, the restored property on 1.5 acres at the foot of Mt. San Jacinto offers bungalows, gardens, and pools, with all the charm of its original Moroccan splendor — with Moorish wooden double entry doors, handmade furnishings and antiques in every room, and a courtyard with olive trees, oleander bushes, bougainvillea vines, and even a stone waterfall. On the mountainside, iconic architecture — including the O’Donnell House and Frey House II — offers another timeless attraction. www.korakia.com
