One of the most anticipated stores to open on El Paseo — or in the entire Coachella Valley for that matter—is Anthropologie, a brand division of the popular lifestyle merchandise giant Urban Outfitters. With an eye toward creative, educated, and fashion-savvy women ages 30-45, Anthropologie provides a unique product assortment that includes casual apparel and accessories, home furnishings and a diverse array of gifts and decorative items.

Scheduled to open this fall at The Gardens on El Paseo, the excitement over Anthropologie is palpable. “It’s going to make visiting my aunt and uncle that much better,” says grad student Maya Tanner, who frequently makes the trek from Redlands to Palm Desert to spend time with family.

The new 9,400-square-foot store will offer a shopping experience resplendent with the El Paseo vibe; a lively showcase of fashion, décor, gifts and more, presented with chic innovation, artfulness, and design.

According to Wade McDevitt, founder and chief executive officer of the McDevitt Company, which manages domestic and international site selection and expansion strategies for Anthropologie, they’ve been impressed with the sophistication and demography of the Palm Desert area for quite some time. “We are excited to have finally identified a location for an Anthropologie store in this vibrant marketplace,” he says.

Anthropologie’s signature collections feature a wide assortment of apparel, accessories, jewelry, and home furnishings. Anthropologie apparel includes sweaters, dresses, tees, blouses, pants and shorts, denim, skirts, petites, outerwear, jackets, loungewear, intimates, legwear, and swimwear. When it comes to shoes and accessories, you’ll find boots, oxfords, heels and wedges, flats, handbags, clutches, scarves, wraps, belts, hair accessories, hats, gloves, eyewear, and more. They also offer select products in beauty and fragrance. The jewelry department in Anthropologie features necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings and pins, jewelry boxes, etc. For the home, Anthropologie carries bedding, bath, furniture, upholstery, rugs, curtains, hardware, lighting, pillows, wall décor, dining, kitchen, candles, books, stationary, hobbies and leisure, and products specifically designed with kids in mind.

But the allure of Anthropologie extends beyond its bountiful product offerings. Shopping in Anthropologie is an escape to a world bursting with vintage and ethnic styles crafted by full-time designers who showcase one-of-a-kind décor unique to each retail location.

Currently, there are 28 Anthropologie retail stores in California, eight of which are located in Southern California. The nearest Anthropologie store to Palm Desert is its Rancho Cucamonga location (90 miles away), making the new Anthropologie store on El Paseo a one-of-a-kind presence in the desert.
