LUCILLE BALL
Aug. 6, 1911 - April 26, 1989
The world loved Lucy, and Lucy loved the desert. Like so many Hollywood stars, Ball first enjoyed Greater Palm Springs as a vacation spot. Over the years, the beloved comedienne and her husband, Desi Arnaz, owned houses in Palm Springs, Indian Wells, and Rancho Mirage and built the Indian Wells Hotel (now the Indian Wells Resort Hotel). Ball even served as honorary mayor of unincorporated Rancho Mirage from 1958 to 1965 and again from 1971 to 1973. In 1995, the Palm Springs Walk of Stars, the Liebling Trust, and the Palm Springs Public Arts Commission commissioned a statue of her; it’s located on Tahquitz Canyon Way, between Palm Canyon
and Indian Canyon drives.
