The 23,366-square foot home was designed by Modernist architect John Lautner in 1973, and has one of the best views of the Coachella Valley as it sits just above Palm Springs. Lautner's design resembles a volcano and has also been likened to a giant mushroom. Construction on the house was completed in 1980.
The estate was used primarily as a second home by the Hope family, who could entertain up to 300 people for dinner. Every January, the couple would host a big dinner party at the end of the Bob Hope Classic golf tournament (now called the Humana Challenge).
Bob Hope passed away at the age of 100 in 2003 while Delores Hope died in 2011 at 102.
The home, listed by Ann Eysenring, a broker with Partners Trust Real Estate of Beverly Hills, and Patrick Jordan and Stewart Smith of Windermere Real Estate in Palm Springs, has six bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, three half baths, indoor and outdoor pools, a pond, putting greens and a tennis court.
