After 10 years of its annual celebration of all things modern, Modernism Week morphed into a sophisticated grown-up affair last year with its uber-cool CAMP headquarters.

This year, the 2016 Modernism Week CAMP headquarters (Community and Meeting Place) will enhance the visitor experience several notches with a new, sleek and convenient location in downtown Palm Springs. While last year’s campus of glamorous tented structures provided Modernism Week a much-needed central hub, having a brick and mortar location will be that much sweeter.

CAMP will continue to be a central location for “modernists” to relax and meet up with fellow Modernism Week revelers, browse and shop in the Modernism Week store, enjoy a tasty snack, sip wine or cocktails, or attend some of the variety of engaging programs.

CAMP will also serve as the departure point for many Modernism Week’s tours including the double decker bus tours.

Fittingly, CAMP will be located across the street from the Palm Springs Art Museum’s dazzling Architecture & Design Center, Edwards Harris Pavilion, and will be housed in the former location of The Alley Gifts & Imports (originally the 1958 J.W. Robinsons Department Store). The William Pereira and Charles Luckman Associates designed building was recently designated a Palm Springs Class 1 Historic Site.

CAMP will again be that welcoming space to catch your breath between events and/or catch some of the terrific events that will take place there. Among the programming that has been planned are book signings, lectures, renovation demonstrations, fashion shows and more with an impressive lineup of designers, authors, and other industry tastemakers and luminaries such as acclaimed Palm Springs midcentury architect Hugh Kaptur.

Other highlights:

28,000 square feet of space including a bigger Modernism Week shop and book store.

• 150-person lecture space.

• Those cool kids from Makerville will present their popular ‘Think and Drink’ cocktail-hour events titled, “Modernism with a Twist.”

• A series of fashion events presented by fashion diva, Susan Stein, fashion editor for Palm Springs Life and creative director of Fashion Week El Paseo.

• Modernism Week sponsor Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery will create a demonstration kitchen featuring local chefs during afternoon happy hours. Also check out two events to be held at the Ferguson Kitchen —The Modern Whiskey Drinker: A Premium Glenfiddich Tasting Experience and Last Call with Charles Phoenix to close out Modernism Week.
