A two-man art expedition opened at Colin Fisher Studios in Cathedral City on Friday evening, Feb. 7, 2014.
Two artists brought together their work at a well-attended opening night cocktail party. The show will remain open until March 15, 2014, with paintings by artist Christopher (aka “CYRSTOFER”) Shoemaker, whose work is more often than not executed as figurative and large in scale.
Joining Shoemaker and new on the art scene is high desert artist Steve (aka “Shig”) Shigley. Shig unveiled a new art form — a tree sculpture — and the response has been as amazing as the art itself.
The pieces are created from a Joshua Tree that has succumbed to fire, then placed through an impressive and detailed process to stabilize and prepare them to be painted. In some cases they remain in their natural state and are placed upside down on the floor.
Joshua Tree sculpture, considered highly unique and beautiful, is available exclusively at Colin Fisher Studios. Joshua Trees can only be found in the Mojave Desert and are considered rare.
