Desert Scents, Critters and Beauty

JIM POWERS Arts & Entertainment, Attractions, Real Estate

This weekend's International Desert Flower, Fragrance and Garden Show showcases the beauty of the desert in the form of floral and desert plant arrangements, desert dwellers from The Living Desert and exhibits which focus on power from ourselves or the sun all under one inflatable "Dome" at The Shops on El Paseo in Palm Desert.

The show offered a sneak preview Friday night, and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday (April 6) and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday (April 7) just off El Paseo and Ocotillo behind The Daily Grill. Admission is free.

Here is a sampling of what you might see:

A floral centerpiece courtesy of Lotus Garden Center, which is one of five 2013 honorees as the Featured Florist.

One of several desert dwellers shown by The Living Desert, this Great Horned Owl was quite content on its perch.

The Cos Bar, a cosmetics boutique featuring luxury skincare products for both men and women on El Paseo in Palm Desert, had plenty of free samples of Acquadi Parma and Clive Christian on display.

One of the more unique additions to a landscape design is this nifty surfboard shower. Many of these are made from recycled surfboard parts and double as functional art.
