California Desert Chorale’s 27th annual holiday concert series, “Let There Be Peace,” will be a joyful, heartening and uplifting program of familiar, traditional carols like “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” and “Silent Night,” along with “Sweet, Heavenly Light” and “The Stars Will Dance,” two original choral pieces composed by Maestro Tim Bruneau.
The concert will also include iconic American composer, Randall Thompson’s stunning “Alleluia,” as well as a lighthearted, satirical arrangement of the music of Tchaikovsky called “Nutcracker Jingles.” The Chorale will also sing Donald Fraser’s “This Christmastide,” a homage to the late and supremely talented American soprano, Jessye Norman.
California Desert Chorale’s 2020 spring concert series, “Bach to Broadway,” will feature four of J.S. Bach’s most famous works including “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” and “Sheep May Safely Graze,” along with a host of the very best of Broadway. Featured musical theater composers will include George Gershwin, Richard Rodgers, Jules Styne and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Several pieces will be sung a cappella, but the majority of the program will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra of strings, winds, brass and percussion. These concerts are guaranteed to elevate your spirit and brighten your holiday season. Maestro Bruneau describes this year’s ensemble as “sounding better than ever” and “easily able to sing a great variety of repertoire with stylistic and interpretive authenticity.”
