Who: 64 Coachella Valley creatives are coming together to unite the east and west Valley art scene. This inclusive event is being organized by three desert painters committed to creating and empowering the arts community: Kim Manfredi, Lynda Keeler and Anne Bedrick. Following the initial call in December 2020, we are thrilled to announce an overwhelming response from desert artists, and are excited to facilitate this creative coming together. The organizers are proud to be partnered by Coachella Valley Art Center, Indio, a non profit dedicated to the idea of introducing new art, new artists, and new ideas.
What: A weekend of insider art experience. This self-guided, free tour begins in Indio where Coachella Valley Art Center will present an exhibition including an artwork from each participating studio. In their lobby you will see a large map of the Valley with each studios’ location. You can design your customized tour after deciding which artists’ work you would love to explore. The tour is a unique way to interact with artists, observe their processes, purchase artwork, participate in demonstrations and explore spaces usually not open to the public. There will also be downloadable maps on the website as well as printed PDF’s at each studio.
Where: Studios are located from Indio to Palm Springs with the inclusion of Desert Hot Springs and Pinyon Pines as part of the valley. You can split your days into east and west, north or South — It’s up to you!
When: Saturday April 10 & Sunday 11, from 11 – 4 PM
Why: After a long period of isolation and virtual exhibitions, artists are longing to show their work. The founders, Anne, Lynda and Kim wanted to share the wide range of artistic practices across the valley and show the variety of creative processes involved in producing paintings, sculptures, mixed media, photography, ceramics, glassworks and jewelry. The artists of Coachella Valley have come together to share their new works, give the public a sneak peek into their private worlds and enjoy conversation with art lovers.
This tour is free, making it accessible to all economic brackets of the public and its nominal registration fee makes the tour accessible to artists with a wide range of economic situations as well.
We felt this tour would also support local artists while providing a safe environment for connection. We know from the neighboring Hwy 62 tour, that even many visitors, spread out over two days and 64 studios, offer plenty of opportunity for safe space and enjoyment. Many studios have outdoor areas, and all will be following Covid safety precautions and guidelines.
This is our inaugural year, so suggestion and help are appreciated. We are heartened by the artists enthusiasm and are looking forward to facilitating this much desired event.
