Climate Stewards info session

9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13 (in person)

If you want to learn more about the effects of climate change and what you can do about it, the UC Climate Stewards program is for you. Adults of all ages, levels, and backgrounds are welcome.

This program is unlike any other in the state of California — an experience designed to take participants on a full educational journey to become climate advocates. It’s for everyone who wants to broaden their knowledge about the changing environment, including students, teachers, parents, government officials, and more.

During this course, students will learn about earth systems, water, energy, and agriculture, plus community science, communication training, and more. The training includes an overview of state and local climate policies, so that Climate Stewards will serve as catalysts for public participation in California’s climate change initiatives.

After certification is completed, UC Climate Stewards are encouraged to volunteer in local service and community science opportunities — such as land and water stewardship, civic engagement, education and interpretation activities.

The goal is to prepare Climate Stewards to be community members who actively engage in efforts to advance ecosystem resilience in a rapidly changing climate.

The cost of this program is $375. Scholarships are available based on financial necessity. Continuing college credits are also available.

Classes will take place in person at UCR Palm Desert and via Zoom from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays, Sept. 10 through Nov. 12. You can apply here.
