Harrison House Music, Arts & Ecology presents:
An Evening of Solo Piano
Tuesday, July 16, 2019, 7.30pm
“Thollem inhabits a world uniquely his own, rhythmically, harmonically and formally. A true original.” – Terry Riley
We are pleased to welcome Harrison House artist-in-residence Thollem for an evening of solo piano Tuesday at 7.30pm. This will be the debut concert featuring our new piano, gifted to us by Dean Mermell of Flower Piano, to whom we are deeply grateful. Thollem will perform post-classical works and free form jazz showcasing his formidable keyboard technique and conceptual expressions. Raised in the Bay Area, he was personally influenced and inspired by Lou Harrison and played in Gamelan Si Betty built by the composer with his partner William Colvig.
Thollem studied the standard classical piano repertoire, composing and improvising since he was a child, absorbing the sounds of his culturally diverse upbringing. He is the founding director of Estamos Ensemble, a Mexican-American cross border musical exchange. As a soloist and collaborator, he has played over 1,500 concerts throughout North America and Europe and performed on over 60 albums to international critical acclaim. Thollem is a recipient of the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation USArtists International and MetLife Meet the Composer grants.
Tickets are $20 and available online at:www.louharrisonhouse.org/shop or at Joshua Tree Health Foods.
