LGBTQ+ History & Archives of the Desert Celebrates National Pride Month with Exhibitions and Special Event

The LGBTQ+ History & Archives of the Desert announces that it will celebrate National Pride Month with two exhibits and a special event on June 30th to close out the month.

A new exhibit of news stories about LGBTQ events that took place in the Greater Palm Springs area is showing during the month of June in the lobby of the Palm Springs Cultural Center, 2300 East Baristo Road. This exhibition is in conjunction with a free program: The Power of Story: How Local Media Put Gay Palm Springs on the Map, on Thursday, June 30, from 6 – 8 pm. Although free, reservations must be made by going to Eventbrite: https://bit.ly/3LJxwuR to register.

For a smaller community, Palm Springs has had significant, consistent LGBTQ media outlets over the decades. Did these outlets raise the community’s profile as an LGBTQ destination? Hear from local journalists Bruce Fessier, retired entertainment reporter for The Desert Sun, Nino Eilets, former business manager of The Bottom Line and editor of The Standard Magazine, and Denise Goolsby, a former reporter for The Desert Sun and current Palm Springs Office of Neighborhoods Manager, about their and other contributions to our community. The panel will be moderated by Brad Fuhr, the owner and publisher of The Gay Desert Guide, KGAY Palm Springs, and the Oasis Marketing Group.

The Inaugural Exhibition, Sharing Our Desert’s LGBTQ+ History, will be displayed for its final time during the entire month of June at the Palm Springs Public Library, 300 S. Sunrise Way, during normal operating hours.
