With a live introduction before each film, our carefully curated selection will have you laughing out loud and leaving your worries behind.
June 11 Ð MY MAN GODFREY (1936)
Fifth Avenue socialite Irene Bullock (Carole Lombard) needs a Òforgotten manÓ to win a scavenger hunt, and no one fits that description more than Godfrey Park (William Powell), who resides in a dump by the East River. Irene hires Godfrey as a servant for her riotously unhinged family, to the chagrin of her spoiled sister, Cornelia (Gail Patrick), who tries her best to get Godfrey fired. As Irene falls for her new butler, Godfrey turns the tables and teaches the frivolous Bullocks a lesson or two.
Gregory La CavaÕs deft film was the first to garner Oscar nominations in all four acting categories, and it is one of HollywoodÕs greatest commentaries on class and the social unrest of the Depression era.
