“Marilyn, Madness & Me” Presented at the Community Room Theater at the Rancho Mirage Library and Observatory
“Marilyn, Madness & Me”, the stage play that premiered to sold out audiences and rave reviews in Los Angeles, will be presented at the Community Room Theater at the Rancho Mirage Library & Observatory on behalf of SafeHouse of the Desert this coming March 5th & 6th it was announced by Library & Observatory Director, Aaron Espinosa.
In an interesting combination of events, the premise behind the play was conceived by Palm Desert restauranteur Didier Bloch, owner of Café de Beaux Arts on El Paseo in PalmDesert. It was written by former Hollywood writer/producer and current Rancho Mirage resident, Frank Furino and directed by international stage director, and Palm Desert resident, Joe Leonardo.
“I knew I wanted to write the play the instant Didier mentioned his idea to me over dinner at his restaurant one evening,” said Furino. His premise was fascinating, and when a director of Joe Leonardo’s stature agreed to direct, I was thrilled! And we have been blessed with two, great, Los Angeles stage actors! That combination, combined with the mystique and legend of Marilyn’s life, created a marvelous hit play. We’re all delighted!
Kathy McAdara, the Executive Director of SafeHouse, which is headquartered in Riverside, and provides Emergency Shelter, Intervention & Outreach Services to Youth in Crisis, is delighted at the prospect of the play coming to Rancho Mirage.
“The producers were kind enough to bring the play to the Box Theater in Riverside on our behalf last spring and it was a sold out hit, raising much-appreciated funds for us,” said McAdara. I know audiences in Rancho Mirage will love it just as much.”
The play will star the original Hollywood cast of Alison Janes as Marilyn, and Adam Meyer as her limousine driver and possessor of Marilyn’s legendary diary. Said one critic of the play, “The show is a poignant, compelling, and shocking tale of unrequited love, centered around the last months of Marilyn Monroe’s life. It is a great and provocative show that will have the “what ifs” lingering in your mind for a long time.”
