Showtime Summer Reading Finale at the Palm Springs Public Library
The Palm Springs Public Library can’t contain our excitement as we prepare for our Summer Reading Finale celebration on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at 4:30 p.m. at the main library. Registrations have been breaking the previous years totals and all seem to be enjoying the weekly programs, films and special events.
To celebrate our six-week summer reading program IT’S SHOWTIME @ YOUR LIBRARY; actress, comedienne, voice impressionist, and singer-dancer Bethany Owen will be at the Library. So start arriving at 4:00 p.m. dressed as your favorite celebrity as ’Joan Rivers’ greets you as you enter on the red carpet! There will be a ‘Hollywood’ and ‘Rock Star’ selfie- station for you to strike a pose and do
your best impersonation. Then at 4:30 p.m. City dignitaries, members of the Sustainability Commission and the Friends of the Library will
join us to draw the Grand Prize winners. Following the awarding of all the prizes Ms. Owen as ‘Judy Garland’ will sing us out with her rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” There will be cookies courtesy of Sherman’s Deli and other giveaways while supplies last.
Owen’s career has taken her to every platform of the industry including such areas aslive stage, television and film work from L.A., Las Vegas, Miami and New York to interna- tional destinations like Caribbean resorts, India, Germany, the Philippines and Aruba. A few performance highlights in the past few years have been, a 13,000 mile national show tour of casino showrooms and historic FOX theaters in 2009; completed a 20-month perfor- mance schedule which began on
Mothers Day, May 9th, 2010 and ended on December 31st, 2011 at the Horizon Casino – Lake Tahoe; in 2012 brought a 4 month performance schedule to the Las Vegas Rio Casino Resort and 2013 kicked off with a 30 day show run in Berlin, Germany. As
well, Owen is a consecutive two-time international winner in Las Vegas, Nevada for “Best Female Voice Impressionist”, an award never given twice to the same person two years in a row. During the past year, Bethany Owen has been headlining her one-woman show in major entertainment cities and venues for weekly and monthly resident run contract tours in Palm Springs, Las Vegas, Laughlin, Albuquerque, Phoenix and Lake Tahoe. Owen has also been working in LA voice recording studios on projects for companies like IGT Gaming where Owen mimicked the voice of legendary actress Audrey Hepburn for the new IGT themed slot machine titled “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” modeled after the movie of the same name.
Summer reading participants were able to earn weekly entry tickets and place them in the bin of the grand prize they wanted to try and win. There are fifteen different prizes to choose from including four bicycles (with helmets) courtesy of the Palm Springs Sustaina-bility Commission as well as a Fire HD Tablet, a Nintendo Switch Gaming Console, an Avengers Inventor kit, Ring doorbell and many other choices all courtesy of the Friends of the Palm Springs Library. One winner will be selected for each prize from the entry tickets in that bin, so the odds of winning may be high depending on the number of entries!
