Two New College of the Desert Art Exhibitions Celebrate Local Youth Presented in Palm Desert
College of the Desert is proud to announce two new concurrent exhibitions of artwork, the 2019 Juried Student Art Exhibition and Rise Above… Awakening the Greatness Within, on display at the College now through December 12, 2019.
An opening reception will be held on Tuesday, December 3, from 5-7 p.m. at the Walter N. Marks Center for the Arts. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served and the musical group Black Market Jazz will provide live entertainment.
The 2019 Juried Student Art Exhibition, on display in the Barbara and Bob Leberman and Alumni Association Galleries, features the work of over 50 student artists, who represent some of College of the Desert’s brightest artistic talents. The exhibit comprises a variety of media, including photography, sculpture, drawing, painting and design.
Concurrently on display in the Peggy and Donald Cravens Gallery is the exhibit, Rise Above… Awakening the Greatness Within, presented by Safehouse of the Desert. Safehouse is a shelter for youth in crisis, providing teens and young adults with a haven from various forms of abuse. This exhibition presents some of the poignant and cathartic collaborative art projects that Safehouse has been able to facilitate for the young men and women that sought shelter at their doors.
