UCR Creative Writing Honors the Enduring Legacy of Tomás Rivera

UCR CREATIVE WRITING

12 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 14-Nov. 4

UC Riverside’s annual Rivera Conference honors the enduring legacy of Tomás Rivera, activist, educator, writer, and the first Chicano chancellor of the UC system. Many talks center on race, identity, marginalized voices, and examine the arts and humanities as tools of social change aimed at critiquing the Euro-centric, heteronormative, and patriarchal hierarchies at the heart of so many current national debates.

This year’s conference features Rachelle Cruz, Luis J. Rodriguez, Dr. Virginia Espino and William Nericcio. Free.

First up is Rachelle Cruz, poet and creative writing teacher at UC Riverside, with the lecture “We Need New Metaphors: Reimagining Power in the Creative Writing Classroom” on Oct. 14. Register here.
