A note from your hosts
SAFETY FIRST AT EIGHT4NINE RESTAURANT & LOUNGE
EIGHT4NINE has almost 9000 square feet of space which makes social distancing easy—including large spacious dining rooms and large outdoor patios. Before reopening after lockdown, we redesigned our dining areas to seat people in one group at least six feet away from people in other groups, not just six feet of space between the tables themselves as suggested.
Before reopening, we cleaned and sanitized EIGHT4NINE from top to bottom, and continue to do so.
We scrub and disinfect all kitchen surfaces several times a day. All guest tables and chairs are cleaned and sanitized after each use. Additionally we have multiple sanitizer stations for staff and guests throughout.
We now have a bathroom attendant who focuses exclusively on sanitizing the restrooms after each guest, and who regularly sanitizes all hard surfaces including computer terminals, door handles and countertops throughout.
We now present our menu in the form of a no-need-to-touch placemat, discarded after each use, and provide disposable wine lists as well.
We take the temperature of all staff when they arrive for work. Our team has been told to stay home if they or anyone in their household feel sick in any way. We strictly enforce this policy, which can cause staff shortages, but it is a must. All staff receive sick pay when they are out.
All staff wash their hands every 20 minutes, and kitchen staff and bartenders wear masks and gloves, and front-of-house staff always wears masks.
All guests must wear masks when entering the restaurant (or they will immediately be provided with one) and must keep them on until they are seated at their own tables and must put them back on when and if they leave their table for any reason. We regularly enforce this policy, which is required by the City of Palm Springs for all our safety.
In the past few days local restaurants have announced that their guests or staff have notified management they have contracted coronavirus. Unfortunately, this will be the new normal for some time, so we must presume that we may all, in fact, be in contact with coronavirus at some point, perhaps today or tomorrow, or next week, which is why, at EIGHT4NINE, we don’t let our guard down.
WE REMAIN VIGILANT AT ALL TIMES.
We are expanding our due diligence by doubling down on the measures above, and all 70+ EIGHT4NINE team members are receiving coronavirus testing by Eisenhower Health.
We have divided our kitchen staff into two separate kitchens—in our main kitchen at EIGHT4NINE, and in our other kitchen at the restaurant we operate for the O’Donnell Golf Club. This allows even more social distance for all staff, who are instructed to maintain social distancing when on their breaks.
My business partner, John Paschal, and I are at EIGHT4NINE daily to lead our team in implementing these precise operating procedures to keep everyone safe, and we are grateful for your continued support.
I go home at night with immense gratitude to you for empowering us to keep our doors open, to keep 70+ people employed, and most importantly, for helping us help every person at EIGHT4NINE—customers and team alike—do their part to help lessen the spread.
Your safety was our number one priority as we planned to reopen, and remains so every moment of every day as we learn to navigate this new normal together.
Stay well. Be safe. Practice social distancing. And most importantly, wear a face covering.
We will get through this together.
