On June 29, 1945 a municipal swimming pool was opened at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cutler. Their home, located at 348 W. Merito Place, was in the Old Las Palmas neighborhood of Palm Springs.

Twenty-five eager swimmers showed up on the first day the municipal pool opened. Adults were charged 35 cents, service men, women and high school students were charged 25 cents, and children under high school age were allowed to swim for 15 cents.

Expert swimmer and lifeguard, Lynn Febich, was put in charge of the pool. Palm Springs Chief of Police, August Kettmann, announced to the public that the municipal swimming pool would be open seven days a week between 1 and 5 p.m.

Two of his police officers, who he said were expert swimmers, would also serve as lifeguards on the days that Febich was off. The pool was open to all, but he added that every swimmer must bring along their own bathing suits and towel.
