Many Coachella Valley hotels have adopted sustainability in exciting and inventive ways.

We’ve checked in to some of our favorites and see what they have to offer.

We’ll be highlighting one hotel a week, and throughout this series you’ll read about everything from herb gardens to beauty products made through ‘green chemistry’ to vehicle charging stations, and lots more.

So sit back, relax, and come along on our eco-friendly vacation.

This week: JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa

Although the gondola rides at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Desert may not be quite as famous as their Venetian counterparts, they are still a big hit with visitors.

And as the resort’s Director of Engineering Danny Young explains, they also have their eco-friendly side.

When did you first introduce eco-friendly features and how did you start?
“The JW Marriott brand has long been committed to sustainability and continues to be mindful and proactive when it comes to recycling and brand-wide eco-friendly initiatives.”

Do you receive many comments and how do guests react?
“Although we don’t receive comments pertaining specifically to eco-friendly initiatives across the resort, guests continually comment on the resort’s overall cleanliness and appreciate our efforts in keeping the resort in pristine condition.”

What qualities do you think are most important to male guests?
“Male guests seem to be most concerned with the overarching eco-friendly resort initiatives, and take an interest in our overall environmental impact.”

What qualities are most important to female guests?
“Female guests fall in love with our Aromatherapy Associates line of toiletries, which are made with all natural ingredients. We offer a line of shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer, soap, and mouthwash. If guests wish to purchase these products following their stay, we have them available on our Shop Marriott website.”

Can you tell me about the most unusual eco-related request you’ve ever received?
“Although we haven’t had many unusual eco-related requests, we did have one group ask how much we recycled in the past year.”

What’s your favorite eco feature?
“Our resort is comprised of a series of Venetian-inspired waterways, which makes our gondola rides a resort-wide favorite among guests. The gondolas provide an eco-friendly transportation option to and from our on-site dining facilities. We also offer afternoon gondola tours perfect for a romantic afternoon, or for the whole family.”

Any changes or additions coming up?
“We are always thinking of new ways to improve our eco-friendly practices across the resort, and continue to discuss our progress and ways to improve moving forward.”
