A pleasant and lightly trafficked route in Joshua Tree National Park, the North Canyon Loop transitions through varied terrain, from sand to monzogranite, and reveals picturesque natural beauty along 4.2 miles. The route ascends 600 feet and is moderately easy if you follow the signs and markers to stay on the trail. You’ll see plenty of Joshua trees, rock formations, and sandy washes, but no shade — so start early, wear a hat and sunglasses, and bring plenty of water. We recommend long pants to protect against prickly plants. The park charges an entrance fee.
