Visitors to CODA Gallery on El Paseo in Palm Desert will do a double-take when they view the two captivating and life-like sculptures of Polar Bear Cubs.

Crafted from 7,000 spark plugs, the pieces were previously on display at the Philadelphia Zoo.

The polar bears are part of the work on display by Australian artist James Corbett. Corbett was originally the proprietor of a specialist motor wrecking business, and decided to bring to fruition some thoughts that had been in the back of his mind for some time and began welding car parts.

In 1999, he held his first exhibition, and in 2000 he sold his wrecking business to concentrate full-time on his artwork. Now he has gained an international following as a highly collectable and sought after artist. Some of Corbett’s most popular pieces include racing cars and bikes, along with animals
