The Equality Awards were held at the Palm Springs Riviera to celebrate the accomplishments of Equality California, the largest statewide LGBT advocacy organization, and to honor selfless leaders who have made those accomplishments possible. Leslie Jordan hosted, and Bobbie Eakes and Kimberly Caldwell, American Idol finalist, added their talent to the Oct. 12 event.

The Signoret Family received the State Farm Good Neighbor Award. The budget stalemate, still in progress in the nation’s capital at the time of the awards, prevented honorees Secretary of Health & Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, Congressman Mark Takano, and special guest Congressman Raul Ruiz from leaving the nation’s capital to attend.

Equality California, together with its allies, has successfully sponsored more than 85 pieces of pro-equality legislation. EQCA advances equality through legislative advocacy, electoral work, public education and community empowerment.
