Palm Springs was recently named one of the friendliest small cities in the country according to a blog posting on Movoto.com, a real estate research site.
The Movoto list was created by looking at 100 cities with under 50,000 in population and ranked them based on bars per capita, farmer’s markets per capita, Facebook likes, etc.
“The City of Palm Springs truly is one of the friendliest small cities in the nation and this is evident by the thousands of new residents and visitors who come to our city each and every year to enjoy year-round sunshine and a relaxed resort lifestyle that has made our city world famous,” said Mayor Steve Pougnet. “I want to thank the leaders of Movato for recognizing that when it comes to choosing a unique destination to live, work and play, Palm Springs truly is like no place else.”
Palm Springs is ranked No. 4 and joins the following cities:
1. San Luis Obispo, Calif.
2. Charlottesville, Va.
3. Olympia, Wash.
4. Palm Springs, Calif.
5. Harrisburg, Penn.
6. Littleton, Colo.
7. Joplin, Mo.
8. Grapevine, Texas
9. Galveston, Texas
10. Coral Gables, Fla.
The Movoto.com content editor, Randy Nelson, writes in the posting why his hometown is one of the friendliest small cities:
"Having been born and raised in Palm Springs, I can personally attest to its friendliness. In fact, this city has managed to retain its small town atmosphere even as the world outside the Coachella Valley has become more and more cynical. Every trip back home is like a journey through time to a place where the locals all know each other and the dispositions are as sunny as the sky is year-round. Palm Springs is also renowned for its LGBT-friendliness, something that has no doubt helped residents (including yours truly) of this small town have a distinctly 21st century world view when it comes to equality."
