Country singer Gary Allan has been through some tough times, including the passing of his wife. But music has allowed him to carry on as evidence by his last album, Set You Free. 8 p.m. Sept. 5 at Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula.

Melinda Dolittle
If you are loyal followed of American Idol, you'll recognize Dolittle (pictured at right). She came to the show with a history of singing backup to a number of name singers. Now she takes the stage on her own. 8 p.m. Sept. 6 at Copa Palm Springs.

"Top Rock" Dares You to Sing Along
The songs you still remember the words to is exactly what you'll hear when you go see "Top Rock" at the Hard Rock Hotel Palm Springs, running Friday and Saturday nights through September. The interactive musical tribute show really spans six decades of music, but most of it is from the 1980s and '90s. Watch VIDEO Highlights.

George Lopez

TAKE ME TO THE MOVIES

50 to 1 Details True Story
Director Jim Wilson, who won an Oscar for helping to produce, Dances with Wolves, will conduct a Q&A after the screening of 50 to 1 with his producer, Faith Conroy. The film recounts the miraculous Kentucky Derby win by Mine That Bird in 2009. 6:45 p.m. Sept. 6 at Cinemas Palme d'Or in Palm Desert.
