Uptown Design District in Palm Springs continues to grow and engage casual window shoppers, to dedicated collectors of all things midcentury modern. More than 40 businesses in the corridor of Palm Canyon Drive, north of Alejo Road, offer a dizzying array of vintage, antique, and modern furniture, furnishings, and décor — not to mention design services and fine art galleries — as well as a wide variety of eateries.
Discover Jill Kassinger’s entry to the home accent and gift market in The Corridor, appropriately called JILL. This intimate space is already a favorite with those looking for small furniture (don’t miss the side table made of paper created from dried pineapple leaves), gorgeous optic crystal candle holders, perfect pillows, casual jewelry, table-top items, flatware, and uniquely scented candles.
With more than 15 years of experience selling vintage modern furniture and accessories, Miguel Linares and James Claude celebrate the one-year-anniversary of their latest retail incarnation in the Uptown Design District — A LA MOD — this month. With almost 4,000 square feet plus a large courtyard for its expanding outdoor furniture collection, you’ll find the assortment of midcentury lighting, furniture, original art, pottery, glass, and Lucite absolutely intoxicating.
RAYMOND | LAWRENCE, the emporium of pop-up stores-within-a-store, draws crowds to the eclectic collection of goods on North Palm Canyon Road. Bask in its offerings, procured by new vendors including PELAGO. Owners Bill Fidrych and Mark Wallaert describe its stock as “organic” contemporary merchandise (often made of wood, paper, metal, concrete, and glass) for home decorating and entertaining. Also just opened is outside/in, a beautiful furniture line in the style of masters such as Lugwig Mies van der Rohe, with fabrics meant to stand up to the elements.
Lose yourself at NOTNEUTRAL, which started as a small temporary venue for sellingthe interior goods designed by LA-based architectural firm Rios Clementi Hale, has expanded and now resides off the courtyard of the newly opened Workshop Kitchen + Bar in the historic El Paseo Building complex at the corner of North Palm Canyon Drive and East Tamarisk Road. notNeutral carries a diverse collection of home décor, rugs, and patio furnishings. Purchase its three sizes of outdoor lanterns offered in black, white, persimmon, and canary.
Fashion lovers will revel in the renovated and expanded TRINA TURK store on the north end of Design District. Mr. Turk boutique carries men’s bathing suits and casual wear. The original Trina Turk store offers women’s fashions and accessories. And Trina Turk Residential uses the designer’s aesthetic to put a new twist on home accessories.
