.When Carolyn Caldwell was researching a career move, Desert Regional Medical Center impressed her. “It is truly comprehensive,” she says. “We are the only Level II Trauma Center in the Coachella Valley, we deliver more than 3,000 babies every year, and we have a comprehensive cancer center. We’re also a strong economic engine for the community — we impact the lives of 2,000 employees and their families.”
As the Coachella Valley grows, Caldwell says the hospital will expand its facilities and add new technologies, particularly in its cancer, neuroscience, and surgical programs.
To help attract nurses and physicians who can support the growth, Desert Regional works with the nursing programs at College of the Desert and Cal State San Bernardino. The hospital also partners with University of California Riverside for a family practice residency program. “It is our hope that these residents will want to make the Coachella Valley their home,” Caldwell says. “We also have opportunities for nurses and technologists, and we offer tuition reimbursement so our employees can advance their careers.”
Finally, Caldwell says, “The one thing we focus on is our mission, vision, and values. We make sure individuals know that when they come to Desert Regional Medical Center, they are coming to ‘the hospital you trust to care for those you love.’”
