Farley Interlocking Paving is one of the largest interlocking paving companies in Southern California. The company serves commercial clients from Santa Barbara to San Diego, as well as in Las Vegas and its home base, the Coachella Valley.

“We started in the 1970s as a tile company and grew into tile and rock,” says Charissa Farley, the company’s president. “When I took over many years ago, we changed exclusively to pavers.

“Interlocking pavers are a trade that started in Rome with the Appian Way thousands of years ago and has become established in the United States since the early 1970s,” Farley says. “Farley was an early player. We were the first company, and for many years were the only local certified company, doing interlocking pavers in the Coachella Valley. We have worked hard to stay on the forefront of our industry, becoming certified in commercial, in permeable, in machine install. We own one of the few European paving machines in Southern California.”

The company started working in permeable pavers long before many local engineers ever worked with them. They’re now common in commercial development for storm water management.

“We primarily use concrete units in this day and age, but we can set clay, stone, precast as well,” Farley says. “Our company is now almost to pre-recession numbers as far as our gross volume. We have about 53 people working in the Coachella Valley, and we are hiring currently because we’re seeing growth.”

Farley is now the dominant player in the market, a success she attributes to the referrals of satisfied customers, which include Legoland, Lennar, and the Irvine Company.

“We also have the best product selection,” she says. “Our showroom here in the Coachella Valley for many, many years has been the only one of its type.”

Farley came to the desert in 1991 and fell in love.

“It is a wonderful place to be based,” she says. “The best and the brightest have moved here. It is a lovely demographic. They’re here for the same reason I am. This is one of the most beautiful places in the world, and I love to be here.”
