Creating one-of-a-kind spaces with mostly custom-designed furnishings, Troy Zimmerman has found a comfortable place in luxury residential interior design in the Coachella Valley — and beyond.
“There are so many luxury and historical homes here,” says Zimmerman, who was born and raised in Indio, about a half-hour east of Palm Springs, where he operates his 10-year-old design firm. “The Coachella Valley has become a hot spot on the architectural scene. People are appreciating and preserving the mid-century architecture of the ’50s. With more focus on architecture and design, the quality of today’s work has improved.”
A graduate of the Design Institute of San Diego, he worked for major design firms before launching his own practice in Palm Springs.
“The lifestyle here lends itself to good design and good architecture,” Zimmerman says. “It’s our job to work with clients to create a one-of-a-kind space they can enjoy inside and outside, and really get into the Palm Springs lifestyle. The first thing my clients ask of me is to create a home that feels completely different from their main house. When they come here, they want to feel like they’re on vacation. They want to put their feet up and feel like they’re Palm Springs.
“Many people are visiting and moving here. Whether full or part time, it’s creating a lot of opportunity for designers to up the caliber of their work and to grow their firms.”
