Thursday, May 9

11 a.m. to 3 p.m.: "Style for All Ages" is the theme of the fifth annual Women's Council of Realtors Fashion Show fundraiser at the Indian Wells Country Club. Luncheon included along with the chance to shop for special items from several vendors.

7 p.m.: Lily Weatherford's Farewell to Gospel Music featuring The Weatherfords, an American southern gospel oval group begun by Lily and Earl Weatherford in the mid-1940s. See them at Miracle Springs Resort in Desert Hot Springs. Doors open at 6 p.m.

9 p.m.: Jerry Joseph is a rocker, showing the influences of Elvis Costello, John Lennon, Neil Young and Steve Earle at Pappy & Harriet's in Pioneertown.

Friday, May 10

11:30 a.m.: Cuistot Restaurant in Palm Desert hosts a fashion show featuring the latest styles from El Paseo Boutiques, including BB One, Dani C, Earth Spirits and more. Reservations recommended.

7 p.m.: Following in the footsteps of improv comedy clubs around the country, the College of the Desert Dramatic Arts Company presents "The Mad Underground" at the college's Pollock Theater in Palm Desert. The cast is a mix of professionals and COD students and alumni. Show also runs Saturday night.

8 p.m.: One night only, Caroline Reid presents her alter ego, Pam Ann, as the flight attendant from hell at the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert. An established performer among the LGBT crowd, Reid pokes fun at air travel and international air carriers. Read our preview.

9 p.m.: Penn and Teller will take a break from their regular gig at the Rio Las Vegas to appear at the Agua Caliente Resort in Rancho Mirage. Together since the 1970s, this duo creates wonderful illusions and comedy. Read our preview.

9 p.m.: Grammy award winner Jim Lauderdale headlines the fourth annual "Jim Fest" at Pappy & Harriet's in Pioneertown. A bluegrass country song-writing magician, his hits have been sung by The Dixie Chicks, George Strait, Patty Loveless and more.

Dinner suggestion: Look for the three course prix fixe menu at Pomme Frite Bistro in downtown Palm Springs, including Chicken Breast Linguine, oven baked French Escargots and Flan Caramel.

Saturday, May 11

11:30 to 1:30 p.m.: Hear about the legal and financial issues surrounding the entertainment industry featuring a panel discussion of attorneys and current director/producers put on by the Women in Film and Television Palm Springs at the IW Club in Indian Wells.

11 a.m. to 6 p.m.: This is the real deal. If you are a BBQ aficionado, then trek to the Queen Mary in Long Beach for the second annual West Coast BBQ Classic with 60 pit masters from round the country competing for thousands in prize money. There are live bands, a Jack Daniel's Back Yard Bar, Merchant Market, Kid's Country and Adult Lawn Games.

2-5 p.m.: Discovered by millionaire Howard Hughes at the Miss Palm Springs Beauty Contest, Mamie Van Doren became a desert icon in the 1940s through '60s. She will ink copies of her new book, "Playing the Field", at Just Fabulous, 515 N. Palm Canyon Drive.

5:30 p.m.: Featuring pop legend Cyndi Lauper and emceed by "Antiques Roadshow" host Mark Walberg, "Evening Under the Stars" benefits the AIDS Assistance Program at the O"Donnell Golf Club in Palm Springs. Read our preview.

7 p.m.: Andy Anderson and Nathan Fry bring their musical talents from San Diego to Streetbar on East Arena in downtown Palm Springs. The LGBT crowd may recognize them from their Wednesday night stint at Inn at the Park.

8 p.m.: Just a couple of hours away. Opera singer Mario Frangoulis will open his North American concert series with "Beautiful Things" at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. Winner of Best Male Classical Crossover Artist 2011, Frangoulis will perform an array of songs in English, Spanish, Italian, French and his native Greek.

8 p.m.: Look at these credentials: 115 years in existence, starred in more than 200 movies and performed all over the world. Mariachi Vargas de Tecaliti brings this invigorating style of music to McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert.

Dinner suggestion: Roy's in Rancho Mirage creates a sumptuous three-course menu featuring entrees like Hanger Steak, Steelhead Trout and Thai-Style Lemongrass Chicken.

Sunday, May 12

All day: Find that perfect place to take Mom on Mother's Day whether it's brunch or dinner. Consult our top 10 list.

11 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Put on your smock and let's get creative. Participate in a hands-on Art Party '13 at the Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert. Paint, sculpt, printmaking, sketching, see art films and listen to art-filled stories.

1:30 p.m.: The Palm Springs Follies runs through May 19 before going dark for the summer. Special guest Lesley Gore will sing her No. 1 hit from the 1960s, "It's My Party". The musical revue is a delight with a cast ranging in age from 54 to 83.

9 p.m.: Devendra Banhart sings from his latest album, Mala, which is described as loose and funny at Pappy & Harriet's in Pioneertown.

10 p.m.: DJ Howe Pyro is guaranteed to make you dance until your head spins with a mix of soul, voodoo R&B, and '60s garage bands in the Amigo Room of the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs.

Dinner suggestion: Comfort food at its best. Roscoe Grill in Palm Springs offers charbroiled steaks, seafood, and pasta set in an intimate space.

Cyclists Invade Coachella Valley

Palm Springs will help the 2013 edition of the Amgen Tour of California 2013 make history. The city is one of 12 stops for the eighth annual tour, where the finale of stage 2 will be contested on the slopes of Tram Way. Stage 2 will incorporate an entirely new part of the state for the race, including Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, and Cathedral City before hitting PS. Read our story.
