Thursday, April 4
All day: The opening day of play at the Kraft Nabisco Championship at the West Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage. This is the traditional first major to open the women's pro golf tournament slate. Play continues through Sunday.

11:30 a.m.: Our own Susan Stein has coordinated a fashion show benefiting Desert Samaritans for Seniors at the awe-inspiring Pond Estate in Palm Springs.

5:30 p.m.: The opening reception for the American Documentary Film Festival at Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs. "Voices of Love" screens at 7 p.m. with an appearance by singer Dionne Warwick.

6-8 p.m.: Marquee Academy for the Performing Arts, a nonprofit that offers free music training to Coachella Valley youth, celebrates its new home in Palm Springs.

7:30 p.m.: Bring on the ladies! On the heels of last weekend's White Party, The Dinah begins its weekend of entertainment with Comedy Night featuring Fortune Feimster plus Australia's Jackie Loeb and New York's Jacqueline Monhhan at Hotel Zoso's Grand Ballroom. See the full weekend schedule.

Dinner suggestion: Figue Restaurant in La Quinta, a new Mediterranean cuisine offering.

Friday, April 5
All day: The second annual American Documentary Film Festival with screenings split between Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs and Century Theatres at The River in Rancho Mirage. Pictured left is scene from "The Beauty Factory", set to screen at 7:30 p.m. at Camelot Theatres.

10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: The season would not be complete without the Indian Wells Art Festival at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Runs 10 a.m,. to 5 p.m. icy day though the weekend. More than 200 award-winning artists ranging from paintings to jewelry to apparel.

Noon to 9 p.m.: Dinosaurs will be roaming the Palm Springs Convention Center this weekend with a walk-through exhibit. Great interactive fun for the kids and adults. Runs 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m, Sunday.

5:30 p.m.:  Future artists will be honored by the Palm Springs Art Museum with 62 works by local students exhibited in the annual Fine Arts Creativity Awards Program. Students will be honored Friday night, and the exhibition runs through May 19.

6 p.m.: Visit the grand opening of "modern X three", an exhibition of works by Artist Downs, Kim Chasen and Marian Moiseyev at Jeffrey Jurasky and Associates Interior Design Pop Up Gallery in north Palm Springs.

8 p.m.: "The Vagina Monologues" first premiered in 1996 in New York City, and the play continues to strike a chord with audiences. Monologues are performed on a variety of feminine experiences at The Palm Canyon Theatre in Palm Springs. Shows again at 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

8 p.m.: This classic gay play,"Boys in the Band", tackled some hard issues when it wasn't popular to do so, and it's message is still very powerful. Desert Rose Production performances will be at The Commissary in Rancho Mirage with shows again at 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

8 p.m.: It's not Elton John, but Craig Meyer is "Almost Elton John" in playing the piano and singing the songs of this music legend at The McCallum.

9 p.m.: The Commodores, the group that launched the solo career for Lionel Richey, will bring back their sooth sounds to the Show at Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage.

10:30 p.m.: The King of Pop lives on through Jeffrey Perez, who performs all of Michael Jackson's hits with all the dance moves you remember at the Morongo Casino Resort and Spa.

Dinner suggestion: A recent "Best of the Best 2013" winner for pizza is Pizzeria Villagio in Palm Desert.

Saturday, April 6
All day: The second annual American Documentary Film Festival with screenings split between Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs and Century Theatres at The River in Rancho Mirage. Pictured right is a scene from "I am not a Rock Star", set to screen at 7 p.m. at Camelot Theatres.

8 a.m. to Noon: Looking to get rid of an old car battery, large or small appliance, tires? The seventh annual Household Hazardous Waste Roundup allow you to drop them off at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio.

9 a.m.: The sixth annual Autism Walk starts with registration at 9 a.m. followed by the 5-kilometer walk at 10 at Palm Desert Civic Center.

10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Festival just doesn't work sometimes. So why not Boob-A-Palooza. The event which benefits the Suzanne Jackson Breast Cancer Fund, features CrossFit workouts, food, BBQ, a DJ, raffles and themed games in the Boob Olympics at Desert CrossFit in Palm Desert.

10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: The International Desert Flower, Fragrance and Garden Show celebrates the beauty of the desert at the Shops on El Paseo in Palm Desert. Also runs from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

11 a.m. to 3 p.m.: To assist Southern California's homeless animals, SoCal Honda Dealers are hosting Helpful Honda Pet Adoption at the Palm Springs Animal Shelter (pictured left). Complimentary leashes and collars will be given out along with free pet photos and $10 discount on microchips for dogs and cats.

1 p.m.: A Vietnamese pilot trained in the north defects to South Vietnam and was then sent to the U.S. for more training to participate in an air strike in North Viet Nam. Hear his story at the Palm Springs Air Museum.

2-3:30 p.m.: Painter Agnes Pelton (1881-1961) lived the last 30 years of her life in obscurity in Cathedral City. This two-day event at Cathedral City Hall includes 18 paintings from private collections and speakers who touch on her life. Runs same time on Sunday.

7-10 p.m.: With The Dinah in town,  "Something for the Boys" gives the guys a chance to enjoy a variety of entertainment at Level 2 Bar & Lounge in Cathedral City.

7 p.m.: Palm Springs Life cover girl Mary Wilson headlines the Coachella Valley Heart Ball at the Westin Mission Hills Resort & Spa. The evening honors Bill Stark, past president of the American Heart Association.

8 p.m.: Nine-time Grammy award winner John Legend performs at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio.

Dinner suggestion: Pacifica Seafood Restaurant in Palm Desert was recently voted No. 1 for Seafood restaurants in "Best of the Best 2013".

Sunday, April 7
All day: The second annual American Documentary Film Festival with screenings split between Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs and Century Theatres at The River in Rancho Mirage. Pictured right is a scene from "Bingo Night", which features Sissy Bingo icon Linda Gerard from the Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs. The film screens at 2:30 p.m. at Camelot Theatres. Proceeds benefit Gerard, who is battling lung cancer.

Noon-5 p.m.: Palm Springs Opera Guild fills the outdoor air with beautiful voices and music at Sunrise Park in Palm Springs, including baritone David Castillo, who won last year's Encouragement Award in the Opera Guild's Voice Competition.

3 p.m.: Music and ice cream sounds like a good combination. The McCallum Theatre Concert Band's 25th anniversary concert combines great music with an ice cream social in Palm Desert.

6 p.m.: To support mine clearing work by Cambodian Self Help Demining, Palm Springs resident William Morse will auction off items in the annual Landmine Relief Fund Auction and Fundraiser at Peabody Cafe in Palm Springs. Morse came into contact with the victims of landline clearing when he and his wife moved there in 2009.

6 p.m.: The Pro-Am Dinner kicks off the Betty Ford Invitational Pro-Am in Rancho Mirage. The tournament features LPGA pros and raises money for qualified patients who need financial help to attend the Betty Ford Center. The golf event is Monday at The Club at Morningside in Rancho Mirage.

Brunch suggestion: The Tropicale in Palm Springs offers a Two All Day Saturday and Sunday Brunch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m..

Movin', movin', movin'
The old-west re-enactment group, Stampede, performs a series of old West, shoot-em' up skits every Saturday through October at 2:30 p.m. on Mane Street in Pioneertown. Shows are free.
