Have fun without tickets to the big show.

See groups like the Gand Band at the Purple Room.

Coachella Music and Arts Festival sold out in record speed. However, not all is lost if you couldn’t score tickets to either weekend’s shows. Check out our list of activities happening in the desert, April 12-21.

Desert Daze takes place at the Sunset Ranch Oasis in Mecca, with overnight camping allowed. Catch Tinariwen and War Paint in concert. Also, stay for Chelsea Wolf, the Entrance Band, and Dahga Bloom, April 20.

Parker Palm Springs. In 2012, Radiohead’s Thom Yorke hit the wheels of steel for his very own DJ night at this Palm Springs nightspot. Hang out here after hours (midnight-until?) to see who DJs next.

The Hood Bar in Palm Desert hosts its Coachella kick-off party April 11. Catch Waxy, Mondo Generator, Whiskey and Knives, and Kaleidoscope. Join Alfredo Hernández, drummer for Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Brant Bjork, and Yawning Man for a taste of quintessential desert rock.

Kick up your heels with the Gand Band or show Palm Springs your inner rock star at Jo Karaoke. Enjoy the best the desert has to offer at The Purple Room. This violet hideaway has been a hit with funseekers since it opened in 1960. Retro fans, hipsters, and locals enjoy it for its roster of activities.
