Project Runway fans and were given a rare treat as the public was invited to get up close and personal with the superstar designers at a special trunk show held on Thursday, March 20.

The show’s producer, Rob Bagshaw, was on hand to share behind-the-scene secrets while designers Michael Costello, Viktor Luna, Ariyanphon Southiphong (also known as Andy South), Irina Shebayeva, Uli Herzner, Helen Castillo, and Stephanie Costello greeted guests and answered questions about their aesthetics, direction, and, of course, helped with “out of the trunk” personal fittings.

Showcasing collections straight from the Project Runway catwalk, fashion- lovers were given the chance to handle and feel the sumptuous fabrics and materials from Wednesday’s wildly successful evening event. Beads, lace, fur, leather, silk, and feathers came to life once more, and their visual impact was stunning to the naked eye.

The style-savvy browsed in casual boutique-style under the Toscana Country Club Runway Tent replete with a private changing area for those wishing to try a fitting with a particular garment. Customers inquired about specific custom pieces for purchase while many stopped for photos with the busy designers.

Herzner spoke about her art deco-influenced handbags with crystal embellishments, explaining they were among her favorites, as well as her use of metallic to play up the softer tones represented in her line. Luna also stole the spotlight to share his love of his military-style leather jackets.

The inviting and informal setting was unique in that the designers, themselves, could engage with interested shoppers in their own mini salons. The scene was easily navigable, with segmented vignettes representing designer’s individual concepts. This personal attention gave attendees a close look at the intricate detailing and high caliber of craftsmanship required to create such amazing works of art.
