Christopher Kennedy Design was retained to handle all hard-surface selections, space planning, and furniture design for this home in Mirada Estates. The designer worked closely with architect Anders Lasater of Laguna Beach for the remodel. They were instructed to take the house back to its roots.
While the house is only about 10 years old, previous owners had converted its clean lines into a more Tuscan aesthetic. The architect and designer removed walls and relocated the kitchen to a sunnier spot. A gleaming white floor and lots of new windows flood the home with natural light.
The bachelor client used the words “classic, modern, and chic” to describe how he wanted his home to feel. In response, the designer combined natural stone, steel, terrazzo, and walls of glass with both iconic furniture and pieces from his own collection. The result is a timeless, contemporary look.
Fabrics in the living room give a nod to men’s fashion. A custom-designed, double-sided chaise in charcoal herringbone beckons one to grab a partner and curl up by the fire. A red suede sofa is paired with a Noguchi cocktail table, and three lounge chairs are upholstered in a modern take on your grandfather’s pinstripe. A photographer-style Fortuny umbrella lamp completes the runwayready look.
The dark brown exterior color was replaced with a brighter tri-color palette that enhances the architecture.
