Palm Springs Modernism Week not only brings pop-up stores to town, but also this year brought a “pop-up” house (yes, it was for sale — that is, others just like it). LivingHomes, a developer of modern prefabricated houses, set up its new C6 model on an empty lot along Palm Canyon Drive. Its first zero-energy, zero-carbon-production, LEED Platinum dwelling was designed in partnership with Make It Right, the nonprofit founded by Brad Pitt and architect William McDonough (Cradle to Cradle developer) to provide housing for victims of Hurricane Katrina. The three-bed/two-bath, 1,232-square-foot house (with 280-square-foot courtyard) sells for $179,000, with a portion of proceeds supporting Make It Right. Here are some of the C6’s green and nifty features. For more information: www.livinghomes.net.
