“Palm Springs is on fire!”
Not literally, of course.
What Palm Spring actress Bobbie Eakes is referring to, of course, is the resurgence of entertainment, arts, and culture in the Great Palm Springs area.
Eakes is on fire herself. She is in the brink of opening new boutique shops in the Palm Springs area and performing live on stage after finishing a stint in a web series, Fumbling Through the Pieces. She may be best known for her soap roles on All My Children and The Bold and the Beautiful.
“I started buying clothes from a designer friend of mine and she only had a shop in Puerto Rico,’ Eakes says of her latest venture. “She sells boutique resort wear and I love the pieces. Everywhere I went, people would stop me. They never stop me when I wear my other clothes, and I thought, ‘I should sell this!’
Eakes says she will open her first boutique inside Raymond | Lawrence in North Palm Springs and call it Studio BE (like her initials).
While her fashion industry debut is hot on her plate, she continues to sizzle taking on new projects that continue her personal passions for music and acting to further contribute to the Coachella Valley’s smoking allure.
She is scheduled to sing two sets Aug. 31 at the Purple Room & Stage in Palm Springs, and coming up in late October you can catch her portraying Frau Blucher (the role made famous by legendary comedian and actress Cloris Leachman) in the musical adaptation of Young Frankenstein at the Palm Canyon Theatre in Palm Springs.
“The Purple Room is such a great place to see live music,” she says. “It’s a fantastic venue with the history of the Rat Pack. This show will be a little taste of everything. I grew up singing country, pop, and rock. It’s going to be music everyone knows and can sing along to. It will be fun, get people dancing…it will be a party.”
Eakes’ show will not only help launch the new season at the Purple Room, she plans to make monthly appearances going forward.
“I love to have people come up on stage and I love to have special guests,” Eakes says. “My dream is to get Michelle Lee to do a show at the Purple Room with me.” (Eakes acted alongside Lee in the web series Fumbling Through the Pieces).
Eakes and husband David Steen (Django Unchained, Reservoir Dogs) also stump for Palm Springs to other artists with the hopes of bringing more talent to the region.
“People love to come to Palm Springs and in the future, I can see this area becoming like New York summertime theater plays with Los Angeles performers coming here for summer stock,” she says.
