Influenced by early California art, Elaine Mathews paints large, semi-impressionist landscapes and small plein-air paintings using a palette knife and brush. In her exhibition at the Rancho Mirage Library, she presents scenes from the high and low deserts, with ocotillo, yucca palms, cholla, and Joshua trees animating her views.
