Choosing to launch his practice in the Coachella Valley was an easy decision for interior designer Troy Zimmerman.
“I was born and raised here. When I left for college, I knew I would come back and practice interior design,” Zimmerman says, noting that he returned to study with local mentors before setting out on his own 16 years ago. “I love the environment, and I saw a lot of business potential. Palm Springs is so well known for its architecture, I can’t imagine any other place to practice interior design.”
Zimmerman focuses on luxury residential interior design, new construction from concept to completion, remodels, and commercial interiors, with emphasis on function and artistry.
“Creativity plays a huge role in all of our lives, whether it’s in our environment at home, in a restaurant, or driving down a street with public art,” he says. “This is a beautiful place to live. This creative inspiration is what drives me.”
His small firm often taps the area’s creative talent. “The Coachella Valley has a huge pool of artisans and craftsmen to help me pull together all my projects,” he says. “I design most of the custom furniture and elements in the homes that I do, and I rely on a lot of local sources — cabinetry companies, metal works, glass manufacturers, stone manufacturers, contractors.
“I would tell anyone who’s considering opening their business here that it is a great place to work and an amazing place to live.”
