Afsaneh’s Natural Hair Color Studio

“Everything I use is organic,” says Afsaneh Gibbs, owner of Afsaneh’s Natural Hair Color Studio in Palm Desert. Her salon features products from Organic Colour Systems, a line Gibbs chose specifically for clients who battled cancer. “Clients don’t experience any itching, burning, or tingling with the Organic Colour Systems line,” Gibbs says, adding that clients are especially impressed that the salon never smells of peroxide.

Agim Salon

At Agim Salon at the Renaissance Indian Wells Resort & Spa, owner Agim Rakipi uses Fifth Element, his own signature line of hair care products. “People especially love the Black Label line, because it’s a high-end, certified-organic line,” Rakipi says. Natural ingredients are featured throughout Fifth Element products, such as lemon peel extract in the smoothing line of products and white tea leaf extract in its volumizing shampoo. Rakipi also recommends the line’s boost spray, which features protective sunflower seed extract that adds a boost of volume.

Brush Hair Salon

Owner Barry Nadeau believes salons should be sustainable, which is why he compares his salon to a desert succulent. “It doesn’t take a lot to keep it beautiful,” Nadeau says, “and it’s not robbing the environment of precious resources.” His passion for sustainability led Nadeau to choose the Italian Davines line of hair care products for his salon. The boutique line features a farm-to-bottle philosophy. Not only are the ingredients natural, but each bottle denotes the farm from which the ingredients came. One of his favorite products is Davines’ OI line, which features natural roucou oil from Cambodia.

Read Brown Hair Salon

At Read Brown’s salon in Palm Springs, the botanical products from Australian stylist Kevin Murphy set the standard for naturally focused hair care. Men love the Rough Rider pomade, infused with soy bean extract and golden bamboo. “Instead of it getting hard and cracking, this pomade lets you manipulate your hair all day long,” Brown says. She also believes the line’s clean, midcentury modern packaging makes it a perfect fit for Palm Springs.
